Located in the heart of North Toronto, the UPtown Yonge BIA is the perfect combination of international retailers, local boutiques, fine dining, and quiet parkettes. Since its establishment in 2005, the UPtown Yonge neighbourhood has become a popular destination for shopping, sipping cocktails on the patio, and a haven for residents and business owners alike.
The UPtown Yonge Business Improvement Area spans an area of about 9 blocks along Yonge Street in Toronto, from Roehampton Avenue in the south to Glengrove Avenue in the north, and includes a number of businesses on streets that intersect Yonge Street. In between are over 300 member businesses, including retail stores, restaurants, and professional services.
Then & Now
UPtown Yonge is a part of North Toronto, a historic area near the centre of Toronto that is home to about 100,000 residents. While North Toronto’s history dates back to 1890, much of the area’s growth occurred during the 1940’s to the 1970’s, and can be attributed to the expansion of Toronto’s transit system.
Today, UPtown Yonge remains very much connected to the community around it. Nearly all businesses are located on Yonge Street, and the areas to the east and west are almost exclusively residential. Those who live in the neighbourhood regularly visit local businesses and discover new favourites.
Green Spaces
Need to rest a while? UPtown Yonge includes two parkettes ideal for taking a quiet break against the backdrop of Yonge Street.
Snider Parkette, near the north end of Uptown Yonge at Lytton Boulevard, features a children’s playground and a small fenced-in field.
St. Clements-Yonge Parkette, at St. Clements Avenue, offers several places to sit among the landscaped gardens and is located right on Yonge Street.
